The name comes from climbing's original problem-solvers — the chockstones jammed into cracks before cams existed. These do the same thing for setting: they go where the route needs something, and they hold it together. Mount them on volumes, stack them between holds, or use them as standalone crimps where the wall calls for something small and adaptable.
